TAVISTOCK CFC began a new era with an emphatic win against Western Mortgages although the scoreline may have flattered the visitors slightly. Formerly the Ordulph, TCFC took an early lead when Joel Anderson turned well on the edge of the box and rolled the ball home.
Ben Stephens made the second for himself acting on sloppy defending by the home side and bundled in the second.
Western pulled a goal back and TCFC keeper Ashley Woodrow was forced into making a good save soon after.
The second half was frantic and Western almost drew level when they struck the post and the ball rebounded into Woodrow's arms. TCFC broke quickly on the counter and Phillpotts and Stephens combined to set up Anderson for his second. In identical fashion Phillpotts and Stephens again combined to Set up Anderson for his hat-trick and a killer fourth goal. The scoring was completed when Matt Smallacombe, who impressed out wide, was dragged to the ground in the box for a penalty and the Western player to get a second yellow, Ben Stephens duly converted.
Western were reduced to nine men for dissent. TCFC then dropped off the pace towards the end with the game won. There were impressive debuts for youngster Matty White and Craig Langmead in defence and Tom Bruce also came on to make his debut in the closing stages.
