WITH only the Western Counties Sprint Meet left to complete the series of events Kelly College?s swimmers have boosted their overall medal count with two golds, three silvers and five bronzes from competition last weekend at Bath University.
Thomas Howe produced a stunning personal best in the 13 year boy?s 1500m event. Keeping a steady stroke rate he swam an amazing 17:21.82, well inside the national qualifying time, seeding him well for a final showdown with the country?s best at the National Championships at Sheffield next month.
His second gold medal of the weekend came in the penultimate final of the day, the 200m freestyle (2:07.29), which coincidently would have won the 14 year old final of the same event, adding to his earlier silver medal in 400m individual medley (5:08.24).
Joe Clark added to his success of last weekend with two more bronze medals from 400m individual medley (6:27.76) and 200m freestyle (2:35.44) and overall taking the runners-up Bagcat Award in his age group.
Annie Tinsley (10) backed up her previous wins with a second place ( 2:42.52) in the 200m freestyle final for her age group.
Thirteen-year-old Oliver Smallwood?s bronze medal in Saturday?s 100m breaststroke event was a double bonus as he took the opportunity to seize a last minute national qualifying time in his final (1:18.07). Brikitta Batten, 13, improved on her heat time to take the bronze medal (2:44.14) her 200m butterfly final. Holly Yeo (12) and Adam John (10), both 2003 national qualifiers, added district medals to their achievements, Holly for the 100m breaststroke (1:21.67) and Adam for the 200m butterfly (3:01.48).
Whitney Bowrin, Matthew Henry, Oliver and Joshua Lake, who produced creditable
results against some fine competition from the other western region clubs, also represented Kelly College.
