THISTLES, having suffered their worst defeat the previous week against SB Frankfort, were keen to get back into winning ways. Lipson, unbeaten this season, were keen to add Thistles to their list.
The game started with chances falling to both sides. Peter Allen, making only his second start of the season, latched on to a through-ball and neatly chipped the Lipson keeper.
The game settled, with Thistles making most of the running.
A second goal came from Eddie Lowe who hit the ball from 30 metres with such pace that the Lipson keeper did well to get a hand to it.
The second half started with Thistles continuing to play the better football and a third goal followed from a well placed corner from David Yorath.
This result puts Thistles into the semi-final of the cup for the third successive year.

THE scoreline does not do this match any justice, the Plymouth team played a hard physical game, but with Rob Milligan outstanding in goal the score could have been more.
Thistles had eight goalscoring chances with Tom Reed going closest in the first half with a free kick from 25 yards that hit the crossbar. The defence of Chris Hutchins, David Gibbings, Jonathon Smith and Patrick Warlow stood firm until for the first 12 minutes when a defensive error allowed the Plymouth side to sneak the ball over the line.
Both team had chances and it was the Plymouth team that netted twice in the next five minutes, the midfield held their ground led by Rob Leeson, with Mathew Roberts, Luke Stephenson and Tom Reed out on the flanks backing up the front pair of Sean Cleave and Martin Perkins.
Plymouth side edged further in front and at half-time had a 5-0 lead.
The second half saw a more determined Thistles play some superb football, going close on four occasions. It was not until the last eight minutes that the Plymouth side found the back of the net again.
It was time to introduce fresh legs with Rhys Williams coming on for Martin Perkins and Tim Walken for Rob Leeson.
Straight from the kick-off Thistles had a free kick and from 28 yards Tom Reed curled the ball into the far right-hand corner.
Thistles Chris Hutchins then ran 30 yards down the right-hand wing, and shot from the edge of the box giving the keeper no chance. The last five minutes saw Ben James entered the fray for Jonathon Smith, but again the Plymouth side sneaked through the defence and added two goals.
