DJM Raleigh League U14 Tavistock Thistles 2 Hooe Rovers 2 WITH only ten available players due to illness and injury this was a game Thistles should have struggled with. But their numerical disadvantage was not evident as they dominated for most of the match. The home team had to make changes to their formation with Leeson dropping back to defence to work well alongside Jones and the dependable Argles and Lowther. The midfield was made up of Lambert and Newton with Jefferies and Wearing on the wings. Thistles' first goal came from sound build up play on the right hand side between Argles and Newton with the ball eventually moving up to Wearing. He had the goalkeeper to beat and showed his skills to slide the ball home. There followed periods of strong Thistles play with many chances to a number of players but no-one finding the target. Hooe were not out of the game and got the equalising goal just before half-time. Thistles were playing downhill in the second half and Snell linked well with man of the match Lambert to push the ball wide to create a number of scoring chances. With Thistles pressing constantly a corner from Wearing was hand-balled in the box by Hooe. Still Thistles could not take advantage as the penalty was saved well by the keeper. Thistles lost concentration and allowed Hooe back into the game. They scored a second past keeper Haigh who had little to do until this point. Thistles struck straight back with Jefferies and Wearing feeding Snell who scored the equaliser. The result was a reflection of the effort put in by the ten home players and with clinical finishing should have been three points rather than one. This week away to Hooe Rovers at Coombe Dean school 1pm kick-off.
