I write to express disappointment with the Safety Audit's foregone conclusion that the Whitchurch Road 'rural gateway' is now safer for all road users.

Disappointment, but not surprise, as what other purpose would this so-called audit serve?

After all, the so-called rural gateway is neither rural nor a gateway, the so-called cycle network conveys no cyclists and the ghastly little footpaths (which start nowhere, end nowhere and go nowhere) are not used by pedestrians.

So could this safety audit be expected to really audit the safety of the new road?

Of course it did nothing of the sort. It was conducted and paraded solely to confirm that the original decision to build the thing was right!

Those of us who use it in modest saloon cars at rush hour can assert with absolute authority that the road is now significantly more dangerous than it was.

Someone is either too embarrassed to acknowledge a traffic design error, or is it so politically correct that everyone else in Whitchurch is judged to be wrong!

I suppose we will put up with it, but why?
