Okehampton Argyle 3rds . . . . . . . . . . 4

Uplowman Athletic . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3

OKEHAMPTON?S third team started the season well by beating Uplowman in fine style. This is a good start, against a team they lost all six points to last year. The match was played in the right spirit throughout, and was a pleasure to watch.

The Okehampton team listened to their manager, and generally controlled the pace of the game by keeping the ball on the ground. Argyle took the lead after 10 minutes, when Kinsey found the back of the net from a Stepto pass. Argyle scored again when left back Woodhouse launched a long goal kick to Harris, who slotted it past the ?keeper.

Throughout the game the new midfield combination of Morgan and Coleman proved very effective; constantly battling, winning the ball and distributing accurately.

The defence of Eddy, Williams, Cropp and Woodhouse held their line well. The Eddy/Williams combination in the centre worked well, especially after they started to play a little deeper to cut out the darting runs from the opposition. Uplowman scored just before half-time, bringing the score to 2:1 at the break.

Okehampton concentrated from the whistle, and had at least ten on-target shots during the second half. Spence worked particularly hard, watching his line and making many darting runs. Jackson made a number of decisive saves on the few occasions that Uplowman got through.

With an hour gone, Cropp released Kinsey up the right. He passed to Coleman for Argyle?s third goal, but Uplowman were quick to attack back, and bring the score to 3:2. On 75 minutes Ben Harris headed the ball into the net, after a fine cross from Will Eddy.

The game should have been over at this point, but a rare moment of poor communication at the back enabled Uplowman to get a third.

Man of the match: Lee Coleman.

Next match: September 11 away at Motel and Offwell Rangers.
