THERE have been several complaints over the past months about inconsiderate parking in South Zeal and the problems caused for the buses in particular. Unfortunately the message still hasn't got through!

This morning (January 8) the 0745 Western National bus from South Zeal into Exeter was stuck at the top of the village for 20 minutes because a car had been parked opposite the scaffolding currently surrounding the Kings Arms. This isn't the only incident — the bus is regularly obstructed by badly-parked cars near St Mary's Chapel and at the bottom of the village.

For those of us who rely on the bus, we face not only the inconvenience of being late for work as a result of someone else's thoughtlessness, but the increasing likelihood that Western National will withdraw the service through the village altogether.

These points have no doubt been made before but surely it occurs to the culprits as they abandon their car halfway across the road that they could be preventing a fire engine from answering an emergency call or, indeed, be putting their own car in danger of damage from other vehicles attempting to pass.

We don't want to see double yellow lines meandering through the village — the occasional bus is far less of an eyesore. So please be considerate and next time you're parking your car, think of those of us waiting for the bus.
