A GERMAN Shepherd dog who could soon be blind in both eyes now has his own fund to help raise money for the treatment he needs.
Thanks to the generous support from the public, eight-month-old George, who is suffering from cataracts in both eyes, is now a step closer to receiving treatment costing between £3,000 to £4,000.
George, who was handed over to Okehampton-based Devon German Shepherd Rescue team, now has a permanent home with the charity.
So far donations have reached the £1,500 mark and the fund is continuing to grow.
Treasurer of Devon German Shepherd Dog Rescue team, Marion Williams, who has adopted George permanently, said the charity would do all it could to raise funds for his operation.
Mrs Williams, who works at North Park Veterinary Group in North Tawton, said: 'My husband and I met him for the first time at a coffee morning in aid of the charity — we just saw him and fell in love.
'I bring him in to work with me, along with my two other bitches and he's very friendly with people and other dogs, except our cat!
Mrs Williams said George was settling in very well.
'At the moment we are taking him out on a long lead, but he's very good in the house and very clean. He's still puppyish and everything goes in his mouth!'
'So far people have been lovely and I will personally thank everybody who has sent me their name and address, as well as thank people in the newsletter.'
George is currently receiving eye drops three times a day in one eye and is due to see the eye specialist next month.
A jazz and classical music concert is being held at Westward Ho! on April 17 to help raise money for George's Fund, as well as a sponsored bike ride from Bude to Bideford on March 28.
The ride was organised by brothers, Jason and Richard Kay from Bideford, who wanted to raise money for George after reading his story.
The music concert will feature classical singer, Tamsin Ball, as well as all star jazz band, Alan Lewis, MC and entertainer, Kenny Pearce and Mike Roberts, The Phantom.
To book tickets for the music concert and to donate to George's Fund, phone Linda on 01237 425354. donations can also be made at any of the North Park Veterinary Group surgeries in North Tawton, Hatherleigh and Okehampton.
