I REFER to the report (November 4) 'Enthusiastic response' to new waste collection. Cllr Sampson refers to 'where there have been problems . . . should be resolved as things 'bed down'. Oh, dear, why does he not get the true state and then he can comment. I have always recycled and have washed out every can and jar, separated all the various types and 'done my bit'.

I always used to take my washed plastic to the recycle bin in the village, but now that these had been added to recycle items, I thought this would save me a journey. How wrong was I. For the last three collections my offerings of washed plastic bottles have been left in the bin. My first two calls to the office resulted in, firstly, that perhaps I had not washed them, then perhaps the men did not take off the lid of the bin (which was open each day), or perhaps they had a full load.

My last call resulted in a very off-hand official telling me that if they were not washed the men would not take them. When I explained they had been washed out I was told that there was nothing that could be done, but to put them out again. Unfortunately I do not feel four attempts worthy of my efforts. The council have lost a long-standing re-cycler.
