A DECISION was finally reached last week, concerning an issue which has occupied a considerable number of debates among members of Tavistock Town Council ? new chairs. Members have been wrangling for several months over the style of chairs to be ordered for the council chamber, which has undergone extensive refurbishment in the last 18 months. The choice was narrowed down to two styles, one of which was chosen at the recent finance committee meeting. Members at their full council meeting decided the clerk should order 20 new blue chairs at a cost of £3,055. Nine councillors voted in favour of the proposal, two against. But the future of one chair in the chamber still hangs in the balance ? the ?throne? on which the mayor sits. Town clerk Roger Howard told members it would cost about £600 to get the large wooden seat refurbished. It was agreed the clerk should investigate the possibility of purchasing a large cushion to make the seat more comfortable.
