AT the recent Devon county combined events competition held at Exeter Arena, Okehampton students performed extremely well, with the junior boys team being crowned county champions. The squad of Alex McGregor, Carl Goodall, Rob Long and Luke Elsmore achieved some excellent scores in the five events, hurdles, shot, high jump, long jump and 800m, which resulted in Alex winning the individual title with Carl in bronze position. As a result these two have been selected to compete for the county at the South West combined events championships in Yeovil on June 25/26. The girls? teams also did extremely well with both the minor girls and junior girls being placed second. Rebecca Vile was fourth and Sian Aslett fifth in the minor girls, ably supported in the team event by Vanessa Davey, Harriett Bullingham and Jade Gale. In the junior girls Rebecca Cox was 8th and Kim Davey was 9th and the team was completed by Ivy Moore, Lottie Trerise and Elona Wonnacott. The past weekend also saw the County Athletics Championships being held at Exeter Arena where eight Okehampton College students were representing Exeter and East Devon. Again Alex McGregor further improved his rankings by winning both the junior boys? long jump and hurdles, to be crowned county champion in both these events. The achievement of a PB in the long jump also enabled him to gain a national entry standard which should permit him to compete at the Nationals in a few weeks time. Rebecca Rowe, a year 11 student in the middle of her GCSE exams achieved a very creditable second place in only her second attempt at hurdling this year.
