A REHOMING day for ex-battery hens in South Zeal proved to be a trem-hen-dous success.
The British Hen Welfare Trust works to find happy, free-range homes for hundreds of ex-battery hens. At a rehoming day on Saturday, the charity re-homed around 160 hens, with around 40 kind-hearted people adopting hens and taking them home with them.
Gaynor Davies, Devon co-ordinator for the Welfare Trust said: 'We are so pleased with how the day went and very happy to have rehomed so many lovely hens.
'Besides the rain, it couldn't have gone a lot better. We were very pleased with the support from people and how many hens we re-homed.
'We get more hens every four weeks or so, so we are always looking to rehome more birds so if you are considering maybe getting some hens please do get in touch.'
The national charity, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, is well-known for its pioneering work in re-homing commercial laying hens and through its nationwide team of volunteers has found homes for almost 450,000 hens since it started in 2005.
The charity operates out of its main office in Devon and finds new homes for hens right across the UK.
