TEN DAYS of superb family entertainment came to a close on Saturday with Callington Carnival marking the finale of another successful Callington Festival.
The rain held off and the people spilled out of their houses to line the streets for the procession which increases in spectacle and number each year.
Portreeve Karen Gold, who led the procession and was involved in organising the event, said: 'There was a real community atmosphere. It was fantastic to come around the corner to Fore Street and see so many people. It just made it all so worthwhile.
'Everyone seemed to be enjoying it, the music and floats were brilliant, everyone went to so much trouble.'
Carnival winners were: Best in carnival and junior walker — Prim Raf, 'The Bug', best junior float — Callington Primary, Popstars through the Ages, best adult float — Twinning Association, 'Oktoberfest', best adult walker — New Outlook, Morris Dancers.
Rick Lumley from the Callington Festival Committee said this year's festival incorporated 14 events covering all ages and a wide variety of tastes. Much of the entertainment featured local performers and the three large-scale events, the carnival, the Lion's Club family fun day and it's a knockout competition and the Tamar Historic Transport Rally were all great successes.
The town was also delighted to welcome entertainer Mervyn Stutter prior to his forthcoming appearance at the Edinburgh Festival and the Dante Quartet with their musical artistry.
Mr Lumley said plans were already underway for 2012 and he would welcome any individual, group or organisation who could make a contribution in terms of help, ideas and sponsorship. He can be contacted via the town hall.
