DARTMOOR-based MED Theatre is offering adults and children who are interested in Dartmoor's cultural and ecological heritage the chance to create new contemporary moor myths.
The community workshops will take place in Belstone and Moretonhampstead. Their aim is to explore Dartmoor myths and folklore, then jointly create a contemporary myth through the use of drama to be placed on the new Dartmoor Resource website.
A spokesman for MED said: 'The creation of the new Dartmoor Resource website, which is funded by grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Dartmoor National Park, will be mentored by professionals and will benefit people throughout the local area and beyond.
'The website will explore the history, ecology, culture and mythology of Dartmoor in relation to the performing arts. The launch of this ground-breaking resource will take place in April 2009.'
Inspiration for the new contemporary myths will come from a variety of sources, local landmarks, natural landmarks, Dartmoor poems, recent events, historical events — and the participants themselves.
The Belstone workshop takes place on Sunday November 23 at the village hall. It starts at 2pm and finishes at 5pm. The Moretonhampstead workshop is on Sunday November 30 at the parish hall, starting at 2pm and finish at 5pm. The workshops are free.
