LEWDOWN 2nd XI are unbeaten in August in the Tamar Cricket League. Buckland twice, Yelverton and Milton Abbot have all tasted defeat in what has been a run heavy month. Finally, the good weather has bought firm wickets and runs galore. Notable performances against Milton Abbot were 17 year old Martin Squire with a century and Brenden Worth 52. Andy Vernon taking 4 wickets and Lewdown winning by 9 runs. Lewdown were invited to bat first against Yelverton, and scored more than 200 in their 25 overs with 17 year old Jake Murphy recording his maiden 50. The highlight was Jack Skuse, in his first match since returning from 12 months travelling around the world, scoring undefeated century. Jake Murphy also took 5 wickets in a fine all round display. Lewdown winning by some 150 runs. In the second encounter with Buckland in the month, Buckland batted first and scored 170 all out, with Jake Murphy 5 wickets and Rob Squire 3 wickets. The young Lewdown attack bowling with pace and aggression, were ably supported by fine fielding and catching. In response, it was again Jack Skuse (97) and Jake Murphy 53 not out, who saw Lewdown home for an 8 wicket victory. The final game of the season is at Lewdown?s Recreation Field against Gunnislake. This top of the table clash will decide the Tamar League Division 1 Champions, with Gunnislake currently holding a 15 point lead.
