CHILDREN from West Devon primary schools are taking part in a large and unique exhibition in Exeter Cathedral featuring the work of more than 70 schools throughout the county.
The exhibition, Moving the Sun, will be based on the four elements — earth, water, fire and air — leading to the sun.
The entire nave of the cathedral will be filled with life-sized figures, hanging sculptures, books and 2-D work on display boards.
Large scale banners reaching high towards the cathedral ceiling and describing the cosmic elements will act as the unifying force of the exhibition.
The inspiration for Moving the Sun comes from Dante's Divine Comedy, which refers to the love of God as the force that moves the sun and other stars.
The children's work will reflect practical, social, moral and spiritual issues in context of the beginning of the third Millennium.
Moving the Sun is a joint project between the cathedral education department, the Diocesan Board of Education and Diocesan children's work advisor.
It is sponsored by SWEB and supported by St Luke's Foundation in Exeter and Devon County Council.
Moving the Sun will run from February 9 to 16, 2000.
