Jeffrey's Estate Agents Duchy Knockout Cup third round replay
Callington Town 3
St Dominick 6aet
A THREE-goal strike in extra time gave St Dominick the victory in this closely fought local derby.
The inclement weather meant that Callington's Ginsters Marshfield Parc pitch was waterlogged and so, in order to get the match played, both sides agreed a switch to Stoke Climsland Sports Ground, home of the Callington third team, and those who decided to come and watch were treated to an action packed 120 minutes.
Both sides included three substitutes and it was a good job they did as players fell like ninepins during the opening exchanges. St Dominick were first to change when Keiran Wenmouth came off with a nasty leg injury and was whisked to Derriford by Ambulance.
The first goal came to Callington midway through the first period when a period of sustained play saw defender Darren Woolley score but gain an injury for his trouble having only come on shortly before to replace Adam Bartlett who retired with a recurrence of a back injury.
Shortly after the break, ex Callington player Jason Gregory lashed home the equaliser and heralded another four goals.
First Chris Truscott put the home side back in the lead, only to see Ollie Cradick score to level matters.
Back came Callington with Truscott netting his second, only for another ex Town player, man of the match Matt Reid, to cancel it out with six minutes to go and send the game into extra time.
The visitors upped a gear and Callington could not stay with them as Gregory completed his hat trick with a brace, and Chris Woods netted once to give the Saints victory and a home quarter-final with St Stephen on Saturday.
l Saturday Callington entertain Torpoint Athletic in the Carlsberg South Western League (2.30pm) while 24 hours later they host Truro City in the re-arranged Cornwall Charity Cup quarter final (2.00pm) both at Ginsters Marshfield Parc.
Callington Town second team travel to Lanreath in the Bodmin Trophies Duchy League Premier.
After four weeks of enforced absence, Callington Town third team are hopeful to get a game under their belts on Saturday when they entertain Bodmin Town at Stoke Climsland.
