A NEW map has been produced for cyclists showing paths and routes for all ranges of abilities within Dartmoor National Park.
The map 'Dartmoor for Off-road Cyclists', shows all the paths and tracks where cyclists have a legal or permitted right to ride and highlights a selected range of routes from easy to difficult that avoid environmentally or archaeological sensitive areas on Dartmoor.
Local cyclists have tested the routes and worked with the Dartmoor National Park Authority to grade and colour-code them based on a system used by the Cycle Touring Club.
The most suitable road links between the routes have also been highlighted.
The guide has been produced by Dartmoor NPA in partnership with the Association of Cyclists Concerned for Off Roading on Dartmoor (ACCORD) and HARVEY maps.
Alison Kohler, head of recreation and tourism for the Dartmoor NPA, said: 'We are really pleased to have this map available after a lot of hard work both by staff here and local cyclists.'
She believed the map was one of the first of its kind to be produced in the country, and hoped that off road cyclists would use the map to help them enjoy their activity and protect some of the more vulnerable paths by choosing their routes carefully.
ACCORD co-ordinator Mike Bowden said: 'These are real routes: ranging from easy to challenging which show the beauty of Dartmoor. All cyclists can enjoy them, from the family to the expert.'
The map for Dartmoor cyclists is available from the Dartmoor National Park Authority information centres and is priced at £7.
Copies will also be available in selected local shops and by post.
