IN YOUR item (page 5, Times October 5) the closure of shops in Duke Street is discussed by councillors.
I am in no position to have views on rents charged by the town council; but I can quote the words of the proprietor of a shop in Market Street, which has recently been forced to close to Tavistock' detriment: 'The rent is too high,' I was told, 'and the number of visitors has fallen'.
This latter comment supports my conviction that barring coaches from Bedford Square has caused coach companies to give Tavistock a miss.
