THE Pumas mixed hockey team came a cropper in this game. This was a physical encounter, which affected the ability of the Pumas to play their normal flowing game.
The Pumas had possession for 80% of the game and controlled the flow of play, but could not score. Numerous chances were squandered.
However, there were some bright points. Notable performances by Becky Wallace and Emma Bunton, a goal from Judy Smallacombe, and the midfield maestro Joe Hess being sin-binned.

THIS top of the table encounter was played at a fast and exciting pace with the final five minutes left for the Pumas holding onto their slender lead by the narrowest of margins.
Some sterling runs by Matthew Way linking with fellow midfielders Becky Wallace, Joe Hess and James Alford allowed the ball to move quickly to the strike force of Ricky Bellard, Nick Andrews and and Judy Smallacombe.
Good defending by the opposition reduced the goalscoring opportunities and with the scores level at half-time, following a strike by Andrews, all was to play for in the second half.
Stout defending by Sue Hornby and Fiona Dunn kept the opposition quiet and when the Pumas' goals came, courtesy of Way and Smallacombe, they looked like cruising to a comfortable victory.
However, Wants scored to reduce the lead and good goalkeeping by Oz meant the Pumas came out victorious.

PLAYING in fog and gloom the Pumas dominated the early exchanges and the defending duo of Fiona Dunn and Rob Kirby spent more time in the opposition half than in their own.
The scores were level at half time, despite all the advantage and it took a good strike by Mathew Way in the second half to break the deadlock, and an individual goal from Nick Boot Hanford to seal the game for the Pumas.
