WELL done to Derek Palmer (Letters, July 30) to raise this issue of the road congestion facing Tavistock after the new houses at Crowndale are built.
It appears that the West Devon Borough Council is allowing us all to drive into a dreadful situation with eyes shut.
The proposed second road access directly onto the A386 was quietly dropped with no explanation given, presumably because the WDBC didn’t want to alienate support for the whole project or were given an ultimatum by Bovis that they would support the train or the road, not both.
Even someone like me who believes the homes are much needed by local families and to help the Tavistock economy can see that the already slow moving traffic down the Plymouth Road will grind to a halt with an extra supermarket and then all the Crowndale traffic.
This will be even worse for the A390 users who will have to crawl a considerable distance.
I believe the public needs a full explanation.
But please don’t say that Highways think it’s fine — they think driving down Whitchurch Road is no problem!
