T KERSLAKE asks (Letters, November 2) how objectors to the proposed mobile phone mast at Sortridge justify littering telephone poles, road signs, etc with posters, and feels that the posters look a 'real mess' and 'spoil the environment'.

The answer is simple — the objectors' 'mess' is a short-term one, whereas the mess that One2One propose to deposit on his doorstep is of a rather more long-term nature and will set a precedent for the messes that other mobile phone companies will as likely as not try to wish upon us.

T Kerslake underestimates by about 50 per cent the number of objectors present at the parish council meeting and totally omits to mention 13 letters of concern from parishioners, 32 formal objections received by Dartmoor

National Park and pages of signatures on the petition held at

Honey's excellent bakery.

Had the proposal been to erect the mast in the cul-de-sac of Greenway Close, perhaps your correspondent might have lent rather more support to the objectors' poster campaign.
