OKEHAMPTON Moving Pictures (OMP) is appealing for old film and photographs of Simmons Park and the surrounding area for the park's centenary celebrations this summer. As part of the commemoration that will be taking place in July, the community cinema group will be showing a programme about the park's history in the Charter Hall. OMP committee member Jill Holmes said: 'Simmons Park is about the same age as the moving image. It would be wonderful if we could edit together a short selection of films and photos showing the park throughout its history, right up to the modern day. 'That's where the people of Okehampton can help — let us know what you've got and we can begin work on putting a programme together.' The group is particularly interested in showing the range of activities and special events for which Simmons Park has been used over the years. OMP will transfer any loaned films or pictures into digital format, and all contributors whose material is used will receive a DVD of the film that will be shown in the Charter Hall. Anybody who can offer films, video tapes, or even still photographs that might be of interest to modern-day park users can contact the project organisers by emailing [email protected]">[email protected], phoning 01837 659991, or writing to OMP Office, c/o Millennium Music, The Arcade, Okehampton.
