The Ordulph Arms is to get a new look with the opening of a community pub and an over 25s only establishment in The Terrace.
Paul Matthews’ venture Mr Fogg’s Winemonger and Mixologist was granted for a location on West Street by West Devon Borough Council’s licensing sub-committee on September 28 but was subsequently withdrawn by him after local objection to the scheme, mainly due to a large number of residential units in the vicinity.
This week it was announced that Mr Foggs will open at the former Terrace Restaurant.
Mr Matthews said: ‘We are mindful of the harmony within the town and do not wish for our new venture to cause any concerns. We hope our decision to withdraw our interest at 8c West Street will alleviate the many concerns the local residents expressed at the license sub committee.’
Mr Matthews added: ‘We are now delighted to announce that contracts were exchanged and completed upon The Ordulph Arms and Terrace Restaurant and we will be opening on Thursday, November 9.
The Ordulph Arms, which will have a new name, will be a public house at the heart of the community.
‘There will be a pool table, darts and all the things you have at a traditional pub and it will be homely and welcoming — we look forward to being able to provide a community led, traditional styled public house with some twists.’
