COLE Moore Meadow's name will remain, councillors decided last week.
The meeting of West Devon Borough Council's strategic development committee was told the builder, Stephen Moore, had written to the council asking for his grievance at the name to be put before council members 'to see if an amicable result may be obtained'.
The dispute over the name had previously been taken to a magistrates court and the name Cole Moore Meadow had been agreed by Mr Moore as a compromise. Residents have already moved into the street.
Mr Moore accepted the council had acted 'according to the letter of the law', but felt it 'had been most unsympathetic and unfeeling' in insisting on the name instead of his family's wish for it to be called Moore's Meadow in memory of his father and grandfather— who were also builders.
He was happy for the council to honour one of its employees (Stuart Cole), but asked whether it could do so in another manner.
The strategic development committee decided, however, that the name could not be changed and it will remain as Cole Moore Meadow.
