THE first public exhibition of a rare collection of photographs by Victorian photographer Joe Elliott will be held at the Clinton Hall at Merton on February 19 and 20. The photographs of people and places around Merton and Huish were taken by Joe, who died in 1913, and his protegé Henry Bright. The exhibition will also feature photographs in the Beaford Archive, a collection by James Ravilious called ?This Farming Life?, as well as many other photographs by residents past and present. Organiser Philip Collins would welcome any pictures of places, people or events from the area which he can include in the collection. He hopes to copy any extra pictures at the exhibition. Mr Collins is also appealing to people who have connections with Merton or Huish to call in and identify some of the people in the photographs.
