THE 60th anniversary of the end of world war two was a memorable occasion in Lydford on Saturday where a host of events took place thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The parish council was awarded money from the Home Front Recall section of the fund which allowed members to stage a ?Dig for Victory? Flower and Produce Show, and a Royal Tournament, where under 8s could win a go-kart, a military vehicle display, hog roast and a dance with AJ?s swing band. More than 300 people attended the afternoon events and 250 entries were received for the flower and produce show. Chairman of the council Steve Powne expressed thanks to all who took part in the occasion to make it so enjoyable, in particular the Devon and Cornwall Military vehicle Club with its ?fantastic display? of world war two vehicles. The evening dance with the 40s-style Glen Miller music was a huge success with the 300 people present dressed in a variety of clothes from the era. The raffle raised £428 with donations split between the Royal British Legion, the Sports Field and the Nicholls Hall. A book and tape of recollections, which was also paid for by the lottery grant, will be distributed to every household in Lydford free of charge by the end of the year.
