The Globe Inn in Chagford raised thousands of pounds in their annual charity auction last Tuesday (November 16) for two Okehampton charities.

The pub raised over £2,700, which will be split between the Okehampton foodbank and Devon-based homeless charity, St Petrocks.

Mary French, who runs the pub alongside her husband said that they normally raise money for Chagford-based charities but decided to expand into Okehampton this year.

She said: ’I do the auction every year but this year I was genuinely worried about who would turn up because of covid.

’I thought if I spread it out into Okehampton more people might show up.’

Yet, covid did not prevent the auction going ahead. Members of the public arrived to buy a wide range of items including mugs, therapy treatments, furniture and even paintings, which were all donated by local people.

Mrs French said that they are delighted with the total amount raised and send their thanks to everyone involved in the auction.
