The West Devon Children's Partnership, together with 'Food Is Fun', is launching a healthy eating initiative with cookery demonstrations from Michelin-star chefs in Okehampton and Tavistock.

Food is Fun is a programme created by Castles Kitchens and Michelin-star chef Peter Gorton. As a Change4Life supporter, Food Is Fun is about encouraging school children of all ages to explore food in a fun way to promote healthy eating for their future.

Twelve monthly recipe cards will be created to be given out to families and children in the two towns. The recipes have been selected to be easy and cost-effective for busy families, and will encourage parents and children to cook together at home.

The recipe cards will be available from the Children's Partnership partners as well as some schools and the Co-op/Somerfield stores in the two towns.

Karen Nolan, chair of the Children's Partnership said: 'A healthy diet can have such a positive impact on children's development.

'I'm really pleased that we've been able to work with Food is Fun, our other partners and such notable chefs to show that healthy food can be exciting and quick and easy to make.'

The cookery demonstrations, organised by Food for Fun, will take place at Tavistock Pannier Market on Saturday (February 26) with Peter Gorton from 10am to 1pm, Okehampton Charter Hall with Peter Gorton on Friday March 25 from 10.30am to 12.30pm, and at Co-op/Somerfield in Tavistock with Jacques Marchal on Saturday March 26 from 10am to 1pm.

Parents and children in Tavistock and Okehampton are invited to attend these free events, where the recipe cards will be available and there will be plenty of opportunities to get tips and ask questions.
