THE finest foods and drinks in the county will be showcased during a special Devon Celebration of Food throughout October.
The celebration will be launched on October 1 at Pennywell Farm, near Buckfastleigh. Special events will include farm walks, markets, food challenges, conferences, food trails and great eating opportunities.
West Devon events will include a roast lunch followed by a walk at Fishleigh Farm, near Hatherleigh on October 10 from 12.30pm. The cost is £10.50 and booking is essential on 01837 810124.
St Andrew?s School in Buckland Monachorum will celebrate the Bramley apple with a celebrity chef judging the cookery classes on October 15 at 10am. There will be demonstrations, displays and craft stalls.
The Moorlands Farm Shop at Whiddon Down, Okehampton, will be re-opening on October 16 at 10am, with a day of tasting and food making.
In Hatherleigh markets, Dan the Clovelly Fish Man will be attending with his traditional Edwardian style fish barrow, with cooking tips, daily specials and free samples. Cornucopia of Market Street, Hatherleigh will invite people to create their own hampers of local food and drink.
There will be a special Moor to Valley Food Fair at Castle Drogo on October 23-24, with local producers taking part.
And to bring the food celebration to a close there will be a gala dinner at Shebbear College on October 30, where seven courses of local food will be introduced by the producers and created by local chefs.
