THERE was a tranquil atmosphere at last week's meeting of Halwill Garden Club as members watched Toshi Hull give a demonstration of the art of Ikebana. Members were fascinated how so few flowers could be arranged to give so much impact.
Whether it was due to her calm approach or some Zen presence in the room, never had a garden club meeting been so tranquil and quiet.
The second part of the evening was when some of the members — all ladies — tried to put what they had been shown into practise. Being of the English school of flower arranging they had all brought too many flowers and foliage, but made a valiant attempt to produce simple displays.
The next meeting is on Tuesday September 21 when Janet Anderson will give a talk on the History of the Devon Garden Trust.
Anyone is welcome to come along to meetings or to join members on their garden outings. For more details contact chairman Jane Spencer on 01409 221505.
