THE Wives and Friends of Fairplace Church, Okehampton, have filled more than 260 Christmas boxes for the Samaritans? Friends? Shoe Box Appeal. The boxes have been collected and are now on their way to children in Eastern Europe in time for Christmas. Another 117 boxes were also left at Fairplace by Sourton and North Tawton parishes. The wives and friends work throughout the year to prepare the boxes. Many of the older ladies knit hats, mittens and scarves to go in the boxes which then all need to be wrapped. Each box needs £2 to help with the transport cost and money was raised for this through lunches, coffee mornings and donations. There were so many boxes this year that they only just managed to squeeze them all in the van! l The Wives and Friends Group of Fairplace Church, Okehampton, are pictured with the Christmas shoe boxes they are sending to children in Eastern Europe.
