A WEST Devon ?chippie? has been rewarded for its quality and excellent customer service. The Chippie at Horrabridge was presented with a Friers Quality Award by industry food body Seafish last week. It gained the award after a thorough assessment of the shop?s image, design and condition, staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills, and the quality of the cooked product. Owners John Andrews and his wife Sandra took over the Chippie six years ago, following other successful business ventures. John said it was meant to be a step towards retirement but it had not worked out that way: ?We seem to be working harder than ever but it?s a challenge we?ve really enjoyed. ?We were recently voted one of the top five in Devon and Cornwall, so that was another great achievement for us and proof that the hard work does pay off. This award reflects the commitment Theresa Stapley, our manageress, and the whole of the team have to our customers.? The couple are pictured with West Devon mayor Dennis Bater and his consort Carolyn Langley, borough councillor for Walkham David Cloke, Lesley Johnson from Condy Mathias accountants, Hazel Bennett from Sea Fish and shop staff Teresa Stapley, Colette Hutchins, and Monika Les.
