• The newly appointed principal of Callington Community College said she would have ‘given her right arm’ for the position, as she gears up to take the reigns next month.

• Tavistock Meadows Meadows is in the running to be crowned UK’s Best Park 2019 — but it needs your votes to help it beat the competition.

• A group of 25 Tavistock College students went to Oxford Unversity’s Exeter College on the Oxford University Aspire trip recently.

• Tavistock Sensory Garden’s second summer garden party was a big success.

• The team at the Whitchurch Inn held a community fete to celebrate the 20th anniversary since the Langton family took over the pub.

• For the third consecutive year, two West Devon hotels under the same ownership have picked up four top awards from Taste of the West, the regional organisation which promotes and showcases the best food, drink, retail and hospitality offerings in the South West.

• The Rotary Club of Yelverton and local partner clubs held a highly successful Fun and Play Day for local children of primary school age on Harrowbeer Airfield last Wednesday.
