A BALLOON released at Bere Alston Carnival found its way to a French village close to the Spanish border ? and won its sender a cash prize. Mrs Edna Wise is shown receiving her prize from balloon race organiser Hilary Boot-Handford (left). Mrs Wise?s balloon was one of 207 released from the parish hall car park at the carnival on August 27. Of the counterfoils returned, four were from France, but Mrs Wise?s balloon travelled a magnificent distance of 695 miles. The next Bere Alston carnival fundraiser is on Friday, November 25, a bingo evening.
