A VALUABLE musical item of ?The German Spirit?, Richard Wagner, was recently donated to Tavistock?s Oxfam Books and Music Shop. The 6-inch LP mono recording of Wagner?s opera ?Parsifal?, recorded live at the Bayreuth Festival in 1951, was handed to Oxfam in May by a local man. He handed over a collection of 75 LPs in several boxes, many at a valuable price. Terry Hyde, who looks after the music in the shop, has put the item in the shop window with a price tag of £149. He said: ?This legendary performance is a real collector?s item. In 2004 it sold at auction for over $200. ?We want to give people in the local community a first chance to buy it at a fixed price, but if it?s not sold in a couple of weeks we?ll put it on ebay, where I?m sure it will attract interest from across the world. ?Once in a while we get some incredible gems, it?s a great thrill,? said Terry.
