PLEASE may I warmly thank all the supporters of Macmillan Cancer Relief in the Okehampton and Chagford area who have worked so hard in 2001 to raise much needed funds and awareness.

Our committees alone raised £10,000 — a tremendous achievement. All in all, the fundraising activity in 2001 has provided a real boost to Macmillan and will be used to support our Macmillan nurses, provide urgent grants to patients whose disease has placed them in financial difficulty and develop new cancer care services.

Macmillan Cancer Relief funds Macmillan nurses, doctors, buildings and information services.

Without the hard work of everyone concerned we would not be able to support, extend and improve services to cancer patients and their families since we are entirely dependent on public generosity. Such services are available from the point of diagnosis.

However, the number of people living with cancer in Devon is growing all the time and we remain dependent on the support and goodwill of local people in 2002 and the coming years.

Above all, new volunteers are needed to join or support our wonderful committees.

Some exciting fundraising events and activities are already planned and I look forward to working with our committees and all our supporters to make 2002 as successful as 2001 has been.
