PLEASE may we thank everyone in the Tavistock area who contributed to the NSPCC collection early this month, raising the wonderful total of £719.30.

All the work done by the NSPCC is so vital, both in preventing the abuse and neglect of children, and in protecting children at risk, or who are victims of abuse and neglect.

Helping young people to become better parents and supporting children who have to appear in court are two more of the many important issues dealt with by the NSPCC.

All the money we raise is used locally in our own area.

So very many thanks again to all for your contributions.

If you are able to give a few hours a year to help with raising funds for this invaluable work, please contact me on 01822 832346.

MAY I thank the people of Tavistock once again for their generosity during the street collection carried out on Friday September 20. The grand total of £800 was raised. Thank you also to the collectors who gave up their time.

Unfortunately, there was some confusion with another charity collecting at the same time in certain parts of the town. This was most regrettable and the Friends of St Luke?s wish to apologise for any nuisance or ill-feeling this may have caused. We wish to point out that we did hold the correct street collection licence for the day.

Our next fundraising event will be a stall at Goose Fair selling home produce. If anyone out there has a spare jar of homemade jam, chutney etc to donate, we would love to have it. Please drop it in at the St Luke?s shop on Duke Street, where it will be gratefully received.

THANK you! Thank you! Thank you! We have so many people to thank, many of them unknown to us:

l Those who supported TUBES through the year, enabling a £500 donation to be made at their ?Last Night of The Proms? concert.

l those who donated to Cancer Research-UK as golden wedding presents for a well-known and well-liked local couple.

l those who have given in memory of loved ones who have died.

l all those who have helped us in our fund-raising.

l and those who stood on the streets collecting during our Appeals Week when £1,540 was raised.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we hope you will all be wearing your pink ribbons around the town. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK, with one in nine women (and some men) diagnosed each year. One of Cancer Research-UK?s clinical trials is taking place in Derriford Hospital into the treatment of women with early breast cancer.

The proceeds of our coffee morning on October 25 in the Parish Centre, and the profits from the sale of Cancer Research-UK Christmas cards sold from Cards for Good Causes will all go to help our researchers find the cure for cancer.

I WOULD like to thank all the people of Tavistock who so generously supported our street collection last Friday, for National Children?s Hospice Week. I am pleased to tell you that the grand sum of £487.66 was raised.

All this money will go to our local Children?s Hospice South West, Little Bridge House, Fremington, near Barnstaple. Without such generosity the hospice would be unable to continue its essential work. Thank you everyone.
