I WOULD like to thank the volunteers who helped with the Tidy Tavy Day on October 1.

Thanks to South West Highway officers for giving up their spare time, Devon County Council Highway officers for co-ordinating hedge trimming, Tavistock Town Council for their support, West Devon Borough Council Environment and Community Team for the loan of equipment and organising the actual bag collection, the Times for your help with this initiative, and Tony, our local street cleaner for helping us with his local knowledge and stamina!

There were 25 litter pickers with a wide age range, including four children and a dog. The community spirit was excellent and in very hot weather 29 bags of rubbish were collected in two hours. I know that there were residents who were unable to help on this day, but please do not be dismayed! Tidy Tavy intend to have more collections to keep our community tidy.

Thanks too, to the silent army of litter pickers who help our community and keep it nice all year round, you know who you are and you do make a difference. Thank you. Well done, Team Tidy Tavy!

THE total raised at the Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning in Whitchurch was £195.90 and we thank all the helpers, all our friends who attended and donated, and friends who donated even though they could not make it.

We all enjoyed it and are very, very pleased with the total.  Many, many thanks.

I WOULD like, through your newspaper, to thank all those people who supported the Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning on September 30 at the Methodist Church in Tavistock.

A special thanks to everyone who helped on the day. We raised an excellent £733 for the charity.
