Sandford 6

Folly Gate 0

WITH three of Folly Gate's usual back four missing, early pressure applied by a strong Sandford proved difficult to handle. With the defence retreating the midfield suffered with more and more ground to cover.

Spirit and effort could not be faulted but the superior passing and movement of the opposition never allowed Folly into the game.

A defensive blunder set Sandford on the way and although the lead was only 2-0 at the interval Andy Kerse was by far the busier keeper, pulling off some good saves.

The brightest moment for Folly came with 10 minutes remaining when Brian Welham, who had a particularly good game, crossed the ball to Andy Dennis. His first time volley was hit with pace and accuracy but the keeper managed to push the ball over his bar.

Gary McAllen showed good application when replacing Tim Shaw — who was carrying an injury — and Matt Baker defended well and provided some good long range passes.

Coming on the back of a 4-1 defeat last week in the North Devon Intermediate cup at home to Swimbridge, these are testing times for Folly manager Shane Leahy, who will hope to field a more settled side this week away to Tedburn St Mary.
