TWO East Cornwall men completed a 2,000-mile challenge across Britain involving 44 classic cars.

Pensioners Terry Bolt from Callington and Jeff Hearn from Cox Park, had one week driving on minor roads to finish the Grand Tour from Cape Wrath in Scotland to Cape Cornwall in an endurance test organised by Dennis Greenslade to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

They started the rally on April 22 in Terry's 1950 MG TD — the car had arrived in Inverness on a trailer loaned by Tamar Valley Motoring Centre and towed by Alan Davis two days before the start. The team travelled through the night and later the next day to Ullapool, where all the crews were briefed.

The race was now on for the 'Trisha Greenslade Memorial Cup' and each of the seven gruelling days the crews followed a cryptic route.

After 12 hours 'in the saddle' Terry and Jeff were glad when the Saturday came and they were on home soil, as the route took them through Gunnislake and Kelly Bray en route to the Wadebridge showground where speed tests were held.

All the 41 crews who finished went to the Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth for a gala dinner before heading for Lemon Quay, Truro the next day.
