THE first thing that impresses people when they hear Don Weller for the first time is 'the chameleon breadth of his styles'.

He is very much a player with his own voice, but at times one can catch a glimpse of his influences, such as Sonny Rollins and Ben Webster.

Don has a huge tone and a fearsome technique and has been one of the many unsung heroes who have populated the British jazz scene for over forty years.

Described as 'a gruffly spoken, barrel chested South Londoner' Don Weller is a world-class performer who, despite his modesty, has been an inspiration to others. He has his own way of doing things and a consummate grasp of the musical language.

Catch him at the Ordulph Arms, Tavistock, on Friday June 15 supported by the ever popular, locally-based Craig Milverton Trio.
