TAVISTOCK Tennis Club could not have wished for a nicer day for the start of the summer season on Saturday.

The newly resurfaced court along with the addition of shiny anti seagull spikes on the floodlights, enhanced a perfect Spring day.

The Spring Cup is a mixed competition open for all members to articipate.

Partners were drawn, but as there was a shortage of ladies, a few gallant men  were called upon to to be substitute ladies for the afternoon.

Each pair played four games with their drawn partner and then swapped partners for another four games. This format was repeated until every pair had played everyone else in their group.

The final four with the most points, John White and Di Kersey and Ron Skinner and Alice Anstey, then played a conventional, but competitive set. Ron and Alice won 6-3 but not from want of determined effort from the runners up.

This was an afternoon enjoyed by everyone and our thanks must go to Max Goodison for his competent organisation of this his first event for the club.
