Tamar League HAVING so many times this season snatched defeat from the jaws of victory it was refreshing that on Saturday Ordulph finished the job off with a comprehensive victory over Yelverton. Having been put out in the field to toil in the baking heat, the Ordulph did a superb job with the ball. Prescott and Folley in the opening attack were giving nothing away with a superb display of tight economical bowling. Wickets were falling at regular intervals and the Yelverton run rate was crawling along. Only Sandell (24) of the Yelverton top order seemed to be able to hang around as his partners departed in quick time. Prescott was bowling with zest turning in one of his best performances yet with figures of 3 for 6 off 8. Supported admirably by Folley 1 for 22 off 12, Yelverton found themselves on the rack with only 38 on the board after 20 overs with 4 wickets down. A brief big hitting spell from Spear (30) gave Yelverton some hope until he fell, his middle stump removed by Lethbridge now in the Ordulph attack. Sandell eventually fell to the pace of Mills back from his ?rested period? and into the attack with another superb take from keeper Baskerville. With the fall of Sandell all Yelverton resistance crumbled and the rest of the wickets fell to Lethbridge and Mills, Lethbridge with a superb four-wicket haul. Make no mistake this was a superb all round fielding display from Ordulph with catches for Rowberry, Westlake, Bellamy and an outstanding take in the gully from Prescott. Keeper Baskerville also shone capped by two exceptional takes. On a superb batting track this was a job well done by the Ordulph. With the Ordulph normal openers missing the post was filled by Evans and Sutton, and what an outstanding job they did. With ten overs gone there was 50 on the board and the Yelverton attack of Dawe and Cunningham seemed unable to find any way of shaking the partnership. A cracking boundary brought up the Evans 50 and the Ordulph victory with no wickets down and 24 overs to spare. Sutton (25not out) in support produced another fine display and also unselfishly manipulated the strike well to allow Evans the strike to get his 50. A fine display from the Ordulph and Yelverton can also be praised for not giving up and playing their part in a good sporting match right to the end. Result: Ordulph Taverners CC 1st XI won by 10 wickets. This week Ordulph are entertained by Launceston at Brentor.
