A PASSION that has been shared by two generations of one family continued at the show, when Rob Yelland displayed his vintage steamroller.

Rob, who lives near Sampford Courtenay station, is a keen collector of vintage tractors and also owns one steamroller, a 1926 Aveling and Porter ten-tonne roller, 'Cumbria Lady'.

As well as the steamroller, Rob displayed several of his 11 vintage tractors at the show. As an agricultural engineer himself and with relatives that run farms, Rob has always had a passion for agricultural vehicles, but the hobby for steam engines was instilled in Rob by his father, Tony.

Rob said: 'It is just a hobby really, the vintage tractors and the roller. It kills me, and it takes a lot of work to maintain the vehicles but is worth it.

'This roller, I see as the ultimate boy's toy. My dad always had engines, and he had a roller which I was always climbing on when I was a lad. I fell out of love with steam engines and got into the vintage tractors, but around nine years ago I fell back in love with them.'
