Dawlish Ladies 0

Okehampton Hockey Club Ladies 4

OKEHAMPTON dominated the first half with good passing and team work leading to many determined attacks on goals.

Dawlish's goalie was working hard and her technique of throwing herself down across the line of fire was very effective; she was supported by most of her team also being in the circle making it difficult to get through the bodies to cross the goal line.

At the end of the first half the whistle went for a short corner just as the ball finally got past the melee of bodies to cross the line and so the goal could not be allowed and the first half ended with no score.

A few changes were made by both teams at half time and the game opened up a bit more. Okehampton continued with its good teamwork. The away team were experimenting with new arrangements and Viv Weatherington, Jo Moppett and Jo Drake made a wicked triumvirate in the centre playing flexibly.

Jane Jones had a great game at left half and Sandy Douglas and Sophie Cunningham on the wings kept their positions which gave the opportunity for free-flowing hockey.

The first goal came early in the first half from a strike from Jo Moppett which was deflected off a defender. A second game soon after when Viv Weatherington touched the ball to ease it past the goalie.

A few breaks by Dawlish were reasonably easily managed by the steady defence of Jenny Humphrey and Rachel Hammett. Given the space provided by these attacks Jo Moppett took the ball up with two awesome runs around the whole Dawlish defence to finish the game.
