Duchy division 1 St Columb Minor 0 Lamerton 6 THIS fixture proved not to be as much of a struggle as earlier in the season. Lamerton took their time and took control in a relaxed fashion. With a solid defence and plenty of running in midfield, they looked comfortable throughout. Strikers Pete Broomfield and Dan Healy had both missed good chances before Broomfield should have been credited with the first goal. His header was over the line, but the referee said no. Simon Breyley then burst forward and was scythed down as he went to blast home, but again the referee refused. It was up to the energetic James Healy to break the deadlock midway through the first half. He seemed to be looking to tee up players on the edge of Minor?s box, but instead ran it alone to the by-line. With nothing of the goal to aim at, he hooked it across from the acutest of angles. To the shock of all the players, the home keeper was left embarrassingly in the wrong position to watch it roll over the line. Healy also got the second, again through good follow up play in the Lamerton attack, with approach work from Kev Swift and Steve Gibbings. Minor came out determined in the second half. Fortitude is no substitute for ability, however, and with their defence gambling higher up the field, they were more vulnerable as a result. In a faultless display, Lamerton?s keeper, Pete Daniel, swept effectively for the away defence, thus Minor never threatened. Dan Healy headed in a corner-kick, but it was disallowed due to an off-the-ball Simon Breyley shoulder-charge. Gibbings got his second assist, putting Dan Healy through on goal to hit home the third. Broomfield then got on the score sheet with two fine goals: a header from Gibbings? cross and a 25 yard lob over an onrushing keeper. Dan Healy converted a penalty for the sixth and final goal when he latched onto another through-ball, but was pulled back in the area. Full-back, Will Cann, was involved in an accidental head-collision late on, and was taken to hospital with a suspected depressed fracture ? both teams wish him well. This week Lamerton away to either Callington or Goran in the Jeffery?s KO cup 2nd round.
