AN ENTHUSIASTIC squad of 3rd and 4th form students at Shebbear College have been hard at work training for the upcoming Ten Tors Challenge.

The team's training walks have taken place on the moor, with the early focus being navigational skills. Gradually the lengths of the walks have increased to include battling changeable weather conditions, and careful route planning, avoiding turbulent river crossings and marshy bogs. The students have been joined on their walks by staff members Eleanor Bearpark and Mitch Kingsland.

Their efforts have not been plain sailing, with one particular session proving particularly gruelling with heavy rain and bitterly cold weather, but the team are on track to be as prepared as possible for the event on May 11 and May 12.
