North Tawton 1sts 14

Tiverton 3rds 3

IN this hastily rearranged fixture North Tawton took on a young, enthusiastic Tiverton side.

For the first half an hour play was confined to the middle of the pitch with no side gaining the upper hand.

North Tawton slowly got on top and after a good phase of continuous pressure were rewarded when a series of good handling moves saw second row Paul Taylor crash over for a try under the posts, which John Stone converted.

It left the score 7-0 at the interval, Tiverton having had a try disallowed.

After the break it looked as if North Tawton might take control of the game and with the veteran front row of Fred Bolt, Lee Arnold and Richard Jackson putting in their usual reliable and solid performance it seemed a platform might be built.

But Tiverton came back strongly and were deservedly awarded a penalty to take the score to 7-3.

The game then descended into a scrappy affair and North Tawton were unable to take advantage of the weaker opposition.

It was not until Paul Taylor again broke out of defence to run half the pitch to score under the posts for a converted try that the scoreline achieved some degree of respectability.
