Duchy division 2
cup final
Queen?s Rangers 1
Mary Tavy 4
MARY Tavy were crowned kings as they dethroned Queen?s Rangers in a thrilling finale to the duchy 2 divisional cup.
Held at the neutral ground of Delabole, the Devon side, without first team regulars such as Coole, Philpotts and Hunter, set about ensuring there would be no upsets ? by league positions Tavy were always favourites to lift the trophy.
Tavy dominated for long periods of the first half and were rewarded when Matt Salisbury gave them the start they wanted.
Paul DeRocha surfed in for number two but several chances later Tavy found the third goal to be too elusive.
Queen?s put paid to any thought that the game was over, pulling one back at the near post but who actually got the last touch remains unsolved.
Queen?s went in at the interval with aspirations of a comeback and it almost became reality as a thunderous free kick came off the crossbar and was eventually cleared by the Tavy defence line.
Both teams created chances and right up to the 80-minute mark it could have gone either way.
Salisbury finally put the game out of Queen?s reach with his second and Ben Stephens scored a rare headed goal to ensure the cup went to Mary Tavy and back to the Coronation Field.
